REF: TR8EN
Introduction
From the beginning, God revealed His will clearly. Through Moses, He gave His instruction—the Torah—as a way of life for His people. Through the prophets, He called His people back whenever they strayed. And through Yeshua, He restored the true understanding of what had already been given.
Yet history shows a repeated pattern:
- God reveals truth
- Man misunderstands or alters it
- God sends correction
- Man distorts it again
This is not a new problem. It is the consistent story of Scripture—and it continues to this day.
1. The Original Foundation: Moses and the Torah
God’s instructions were never vague or incomplete.
Deuteronomy 4:2
“You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.”
Deuteronomy 12:32
“Whatever I command you, be careful to observe it; you shall not add to it nor take away from it.”
The Torah was given as a complete and sufficient foundation. It defined:
- How to live
- How to worship
- How to walk in covenant with God
The Hebrew word Torah (תּוֹרָה) means instruction, not merely “law.” It is guidance from a loving Creator.
2. Early Distortions: Even Before the Prophets
Distortion began early. Even while the Torah was still fresh, people began deviating.
Exodus 32:8
“They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them…”
Judges 21:25
“…everyone did what was right in his own eyes.”
This is the first major pattern:
- God gives instruction
- People redefine it based on their own understanding
3. The Prophets: A Constant Call Back
The prophets were not introducing new doctrines—they were calling Israel back to what was already given.
Jeremiah 6:16
“Stand in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, where the good way is, and walk in it…”
Isaiah 29:13
“…their fear toward Me is taught by the commandment of men.”
Here we see a key issue:
- God’s commandments were replaced with human teachings
The distortion was not rejection of God—it was substitution.
4. By the Time of Yeshua: Tradition Had Taken Over
When Yeshua came, the problem had reached a critical point.
Religious leaders were:
- Teaching Scripture
- But interpreting it through layers of tradition
Yeshua confronted this directly:
Mark 7:7-9
“In vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men… you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your tradition.”
This is one of the clearest statements in all Scripture:
👉 The problem was not the Torah
👉 The problem was replacing it with man-made interpretations
5. Yeshua Set the Record Straight
Yeshua did not come to create a new system—He came to restore the correct understanding.
Matthew 5:17-19
“Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets… till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law…”
He clarified:
- The Torah still stands
- The Prophets still stand
- The issue is understanding and application
He also brought the heart back into obedience:
Matthew 23:23
“…these you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone.”
Not replacing—but restoring balance and truth.
6. The Apostles and the First Disciples
After Yeshua, nothing changed in terms of foundation.
The apostles continued:
- Teaching from the Law and the Prophets
- Living according to God’s commandments
Acts 24:14
“…believing all things which are written in the Law and in the Prophets.”
Acts 21:24
“…that you yourself also walk orderly and keep the law.”
Even Paul, often misunderstood, said:
Romans 3:31
“Do we then make void the law through faith? Certainly not! On the contrary, we establish the law.”
The early believers did not abandon the Torah—they walked in it with the proper understanding through Yeshua.
7. Distortions After the First Century
After the apostles, a gradual shift began.
As the message spread among the nations:
- Cultural influences increased
- Separation from the original Hebrew context grew
- New interpretations began to form
Over time:
- Biblical practices were replaced
- New traditions were introduced
- Institutional structures formed
This fulfilled what was already foretold:
Jeremiah 16:19
“…Surely our fathers have inherited lies, worthlessness and unprofitable things.”
8. The Role of Misinterpretation
Many distortions came not from rejection—but from misunderstanding.
Peter warned about this regarding Paul’s writings:
2 Peter 3:15-16
“…some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist…”
Key issues included:
- Misunderstanding “grace” as permission to ignore God’s commandments
- Misinterpreting Paul as opposing the Torah
- Removing Scripture from its original context
This led to:
- Division
- Denominations
- Conflicting doctrines
9. Man-Made Religion and Traditions
Over centuries, systems developed that:
- Added to Scripture
- Removed from Scripture
- Reinterpreted Scripture
Exactly what God warned against.
Colossians 2:8
“Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men…”
The result:
- Many sincere believers
- Following inherited teachings
- Without questioning their origin
10. The Return: A Global Awakening
Since the late 20th century—especially beginning in the 1980s—a growing number of believers around the world have begun to re-examine Scripture.
This movement is not centralized or controlled. It is happening globally:
- Individuals studying Scripture directly
- Rediscovering the Torah
- Reconnecting the Old and New Testaments
- Questioning long-held assumptions
This aligns with what Scripture foretold:
Acts 3:21
“…whom heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things…”
Isaiah 2:3
“For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.”
People are returning to:
- God’s original instructions
- The teachings of Moses
- The message of the prophets
- The restoration brought by Yeshua
- The example of the apostles
11. The Pattern Repeats—But So Does Restoration
The same pattern continues:
- Truth is revealed
- It is distorted
- God restores it
But today, we are witnessing something unique:
👉 A widespread return to the original foundation
👉 A hunger for truth beyond tradition
👉 A desire to align with Scripture as it was originally given
12. A Personal Question
This leads to an honest question:
Are we following Scripture… or an interpretation of Scripture?
Yeshua restored clarity.
Now the responsibility falls on each of us to:
- Examine what we believe
- Compare it with Scripture
- Be willing to return to the truth
Practical Application
- Study the Torah, the Prophets, and the Writings
- Read the New Testament in that context
- Question traditions respectfully
- Seek understanding directly from God
- Align belief with obedience
